Trace is a personal record for reflection after the drive.
Trace can record routes, time, distance, speed, motion-derived events, and the vehicle configuration attached to a trip. It is intended to help a person remember and review a drive—not to direct vehicle operation, create a public-road contest, or replace attention to the road.
This Policy applies whenever Trace is installed, recording, displaying a drive, sharing an artifact, or presenting a comparison. It is incorporated into the Terms of Use when those Terms become effective.
- ordinary everyday driving as a passive record while obeying every speed limit, traffic rule, and phone-use law;
- sanctioned track days or closed-course activity when the facility, organizer, law, and recording rules permit it; and
- off-public-road or private-property activity only with permission and only where the activity and recording are lawful.
Where automatic or background recording is enabled, configure it while safely parked and let it operate without touching the phone once the vehicle moves. Detection and recording remain subject to permissions, device state, and iOS limits.
No screen interaction while the vehicle is moving.
- Set up the vehicle, permissions, route options, and recording state before moving.
- If a drive needs attention, pull over and park in a safe, lawful location first.
- Review, edit, compare, publish, message, or share only after the drive has ended.
- Do not ask a passenger to use Trace in a way that distracts the driver or obstructs safe operation.
- Follow any stricter phone-use, hands-free, novice-driver, employer, track, or local rule.
An unavailable, delayed, incorrect, or incomplete display is never a reason to look at or manipulate the phone while moving.
Normal driving only—no record attempts or competition.
On any road, highway, street, shoulder, public parking area, or other place open to public traffic, obey every posted limit and applicable law. Do not use Trace to race, time another vehicle, chase a top speed, attempt a personal best, test acceleration, evade enforcement, stage a meet, or encourage another person to do so.
A post-drive number, badge, comparison, board, or share card does not show that the underlying driving was safe, lawful, skillful, or accurately measured. Public-road performance must not be treated as a challenge or reward.
A boundary check does not certify the event.
Track Mode is intended only for a sanctioned facility, a closed course, or private property where the activity and phone-based recording are permitted. Confirm the organizer’s rules, vehicle condition, insurance, participant requirements, and device-mount policy before use.
Trace may require a current acknowledgement and an initial accepted location inside a bundled facility boundary. That check can be wrong or outdated and does not certify ownership, permission, course status, event supervision, timing equipment, driving skill, vehicle preparation, or legal compliance.
GPS and sensor results are approximate.
Device location, cellular conditions, sky view, tunnels, multipath, weather, mount, calibration, battery state, permissions, app lifecycle, and processing can make a route or metric inaccurate, late, discontinuous, or unavailable. Trace may remove a live number or mark a result unavailable when its source is stale or uncertain.
Trace results are not calibrated timing, official scoring, certified speed, evidentiary reconstruction, proof of identity, proof of legal-road use, or a basis for traffic court, insurance pricing, warranty decisions, employment action, or fleet compliance.
Nothing in Trace should create a live incentive to drive harder.
The active-drive surface must not present a leaderboard rank, speed record, reward, milestone, comparison prompt, or social notification. A separately accepted live speed display is read-only and disappears when stale or unavailable. Rewards and records are evaluated only after recording ends.
Any board is post-drive, opt-in, and based on bounded server-calculated evidence. Its provenance cannot establish safe conduct, a valid track, physical anti-cheat, vehicle identity, mount quality, or sensor accuracy. A result may be withheld, removed, or reset to preserve safety and integrity.
Secure the phone without blocking safe operation.
- Use a lawful, stable mount appropriate for the vehicle and activity.
- Do not obstruct the windshield, controls, gauges, airbags, visibility, or occupant movement.
- Secure the phone so it cannot move freely through the passenger compartment.
- Route cables and power safely and stop use if the device overheats, swells, shifts, or becomes hazardous.
- Do not use a mount, sensor reading, or Trace display as a substitute for approved track timing or vehicle instrumentation.
Trace does not watch the road or control the car.
TRACE DOES NOT NAVIGATE, MANAGE SPEED, ASSIST THE DRIVER, AVOID COLLISIONS, RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES, PROVIDE INSURANCE TELEMATICS, MANAGE FLEETS, OR CONTROL ANY PART OF A VEHICLE.
Trace has no duty to detect a hazard, predict a collision, warn about unsafe driving, summon help, contact authorities, or intervene in operation. It can fail silently, miss a drive, lose background execution, display an outdated value, or be unavailable. Keep attention on the environment, instruments, and instructions that actually govern safe operation.
A build record is not an inspection or repair recommendation.
Vehicle specifications, modifications, maintenance records, OCR suggestions, build plans, and future guidance may be incomplete, user-entered, provider-supplied, or mistaken. Trace does not certify part compatibility, road legality, workmanship, torque, calibration, emissions compliance, warranty coverage, diagnosis, or safety.
Review imported or OCR-derived information before saving it. Use qualified mechanics, manufacturer instructions, regulators, and licensed professionals for inspection, repair, modification, and legal questions.
Do not use Trace or support as an emergency channel.
If people or property are in immediate danger, stop when safe and contact local emergency services, roadside assistance, the track operator, or another appropriate professional. Do not wait for Trace, a message, a diagnostic, or support response.
Every driving decision remains yours.
Operating and modifying a vehicle is inherently dangerous. You are responsible for the condition of the vehicle, route, speed, maneuver, permission, passengers, phone, compliance, and decision to drive. Trace cannot prevent an accident, injury, death, property loss, citation, prosecution, insurance dispute, license action, or other consequence.
The assumption-of-risk, warranty, and liability provisions in the Terms of Use apply to the fullest extent permitted, while preserving liability and consumer rights that law does not allow the parties to waive.
Report safety concerns without sharing unnecessary personal data.
If enabled account or public features are used to organize dangerous conduct, make a bounded in-app report when available. Do not follow, confront, or investigate another driver and do not send unnecessary routes, plates, private messages, or personal data. For immediate danger, contact local authorities rather than Trace.

Vex may review Trace-hosted content or account activity available to it and take a proportionate action under the Terms or Community Guidelines, including restricting content or suspending an account where appropriate. This does not mean Vex monitors real-world driving, and a report does not guarantee a particular result or response time.
